ReadMe for Pinnacle Remote Kit Driver for Windows XP (Non MCE) Jan 2008
========================================================================
This is a custom driver for the Pinnacle remote kit.
Questions should be directed to paul at ironclad dot net
For up do date info, see

Installation
=====================================
To install the driver, plug in the USB cord to the device and when prompted,
select the location of the driver located with this package. You will have to go
through the wizard several times. Just keep pointing the wizard to the driver
located with this package. You have to do this like 6 times, I think..
Test the Install
====================================
Once installed, open up notepad. (start/programs/accessories/notepad) Be sure
the empty notepad window is selected (in focus) and then press the number keys
on the remote (1,2,3, etc). The corresponding number should be typed in your
notepad window. If the numbers appear, the remote is now installed correctly!
Customizing the remote keys
=====================================
To date, I havent found a girder or Hip plugin that will work. If anyone finds
one, please let me know (paul at ironclad dot net). Never fear though! I found a great
free product called Intelliremote (www.intelliremote.com)
that works as well as girder or Hip with the Pinnacle remote kit.
The only problem is, with Intelliremote (or girder and hip for that matter) a
double entry will be recorded when you hit any of the keys on the keypad. To fix
this, we have to edit the registry to disable the normal functionality of the
keypad so only the Intelliremote key-press will be recorded.
I found this registry hack on a forum at mediaportal
http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/mce_replacement_driver_obsolete-t29024.html?t=29024
Snip----
Load "regedit.exe" and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da
Then delete the keys from "CodeSetNum0" to "CodeSetNum3".
To make sure you can recover these keys easily should you want to you should
save them by using the export function in the file menu.
Once the registry has been changed you will need to reboot for the change to
take effect.
This same process can be applied to disable automatic keyboard handling. Just
look at the other registry sections under the "Remotes" sections.
Now if you ever want to re-enable the automatic handling of the MCE Remote and
MCE Keyboard you just need to put those registry keys back.
------------end of snip
Good luck and keep me informed of any problems or additions you may find. I will
post them at
